Kids overalls and dungarees: two shapes, one idea
The word changes with the country. In the US, overalls are the bib-and-braces kind with shoulder straps; in the UK those are dungarees; in much of Europe an "overall" is the all-in-one with sleeves and a button front. We make both, and they share the same purpose: one piece that stays put through climbing, kneeling and sitting in the sand, with pockets where small hands look for them.
Dungarees with straps
The Farmer Dungaree in black and off-white have short legs, adjustable shoulder bands and a buttoned front, and run from size 68 to 152. For babies and toddlers, the Beach Playsuit is a short-legged bib overall in solid cotton with big waist pockets and press studs inside both legs, and the Baby Denim Playsuit is a light-blue denim salopette with press studs at the shoulders and for nappy changes.
All-in-one overalls
The Beige Cotton Kids Overall and its black twin are long, button-front overalls in cotton gabardine, cut after a deep-sea diver's suit, with a chest pocket, two side pockets and an adjustable waist cord. The Kids Black Overall and the Terracotta Overall are sewn at Lira Moden in Germany and are marked GOTS-certified on their product pages.
Sizes and layering for winter
Overalls run from size 68 (about 6 months) to 152 (about 12 years). Because the straps carry the weight, they fit a wider range of waists than trousers do, so if she or he is between sizes, the larger one usually lasts a year longer. In winter, a knit underneath does the work: our kids cardigans and sweatshirts sit well under a bib. For one-piece jumpsuits and boiler suits with sleeves, see our girls jumpsuits and boiler suits. Every piece is vegan.
Frequently asked
What is the difference between overalls and dungarees?
Nothing, except where you live. Americans say overalls and the British say dungarees for the same bib-and-straps trousers. In Europe "overall" can also mean a one-piece with sleeves. On this page you'll find both shapes, and each product page shows which one it is.
What sizes do your kids overalls come in?
From size 68 (about 6 months) to 152 (about 12 years), depending on the style. Our sizes are heights in centimetres; the size guide shows which height matches which age.
Are overalls practical for toddlers who are potty training?
Choose the strapped dungarees: the shoulder bands unbutton, so they come down quickly. The baby salopette also has press studs for nappy changes. The long button-front overalls are better kept for older children.
Can girls wear overalls?
Of course. Every overall on this page is cut for girls and boys alike.
Are your overalls organic cotton?
Some are. The Kids Black Overall and the Terracotta Overall are marked GOTS-certified on their product pages. The others are cotton, gabardine or denim and are described that way.
