Cotton, not wool

Every knit in this edit is cotton. It breathes on the way to school and again at pick-up, it does not itch at the neck, and it goes in the washing machine with everything else. In September that matters more than warmth: a cotton knit layers over a tee on a bright morning and carries the child through to the cooler walk home. GOTS-certified pieces are marked on each product page.

The school-run cardigan

It goes on at eight. By ten it is tied round a waist or pushed into a school bag. It comes back on for the walk home. That is the whole job of a school-run cardigan, and it is why ours are knitted to take it. These are the pieces that get handed down between siblings — and between cousins after that.

Knit by hand-guided machines, finished by hand

Our knits are made in small ateliers we know by name, and the name is on the product page. The fabric comes off hand-guided knitting machines; the linking, the buttons and the embroidered details are finished by hand. Several pieces in this edit carry hand embroidery. Many styles run the full size range, from 68 (six months) to 176 (sixteen years), so a baby and a teenager can wear the same knit.

Three pieces, one set

Choose any three pieces from The Knit Edit and 15% comes off in the cart. It is applied automatically — no code, nothing to remember at checkout. Mix sizes freely: a cardigan for the eldest, a knit top for the middle one and a striped sweater for the baby count as three.

Frequently asked

Does cotton knit pill or stretch?

Far less than acrylic — cotton holds its shape better than most blends. Wash cold, dry flat and reshape while damp; the knit comes back to size. A little surface fuzz after a season is normal and lifts off with a fabric comb.

Is a cotton knit warm enough for autumn?

It is a layering knit, made for days between 10 and 18 °C. When it turns colder, wear it over a long-sleeve top: the knit holds a layer of warm air without the bulk of a coat.

Which size should I choose?

Our sizes run from 68 (six months) to 176 (sixteen years). Knit has give, so take the child's usual size — there is no need to size up. The full chart is on our size guide.

Can I mix baby and kids pieces for the three-piece set?

Yes. Any three pieces from The Knit Edit count, in any sizes — a baby cardigan, a kids dress and a teen sweater make a set.

How do I wash hand-embroidered knits?

Inside out, cold, on a gentle cycle or by hand. No tumble dryer — lay flat to dry and reshape while damp. Keep the embroidery away from hooks and zips in the wash.
