Proof of Ethics

Most children's brands ask you to take their word for it. This page exists so you don't have to.

Everything below is either certified by a third party, published in our annual report, or stated as a plain fact we can be held to. Where we can't prove something, we don't say it — and we've removed the words we used to say before we could.

What is certified

GOTS — organic cotton

Infantium Victoria GmbH is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard, version 7.0, by Control Union Certifications B.V., under licence CB-GOTS-CUC-03-1010632, valid to 30 June 2027. The scope covers children's and babies' apparel across retail, trading, warehousing and manufacturing.

What that does and does not mean. A scope certificate proves the company is certified. It does not make every garment organic. Per-garment proof is a Transaction Certificate, and only pieces covered by one carry the GOTS reference on this site. That is why you will see "GOTS-certified organic cotton" on some product pages and not others — it is an allow-list, enforced product by product. Pieces without it are described as conventional cotton, because that is what they are.

One line is certified "Made With Organic" rather than "Organic" — a 70% organic cotton and 30% kapok blend. We label it accordingly.

Vegan — the entire range, since 2015

No wool. No silk. No leather. No fur. No down, no cashmere, no animal-derived glues or trims, anywhere in the range. This is not a line or a capsule; it is every piece we have made for a decade. Infantium Victoria won PETA's Vegan Fashion Award in 2025.

ZDHC MRSL 3.1 — chemistry

Our dyeing and processing partners work to the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List, which removes hazardous substances from wet processing. In practice that means no AZO dyes, no PVC, no chemical finishes, and nickel-free hardware.

1% for the Planet

We contribute 1% of annual sales to verified environmental solutions, as certified by 1% for the Planet.

What we don't use

• No animal-derived materials — wool, silk, leather, fur, down, cashmere, or animal glues
• No polyester or nylon in the cloth we cut. Functional components — sewing threads, zips, elastics — may contain polyester or polyurethane where durability requires it, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise
• No PVC
• No AZO dyes or conventional chemical finishes
• No nickel in hardware
• No PFAS water repellents
• Elastane only where fit requires it — 2–5% in blended pieces, stated on the product page

The numbers, from our 2025 report

• 76% of 2025 production used fabrics carrying organic cotton Transaction Certificates
• 14% used organic cotton yarn from a facility not itself GOTS-certified — organic raw material, uncertified processor, and we say so
• 10% came from our own recovered cutting waste, rewoven into new fabric by our partner Iro Iro in Jaipur
• 84% was pure mono-material cotton; 16% cotton-elastane blends
• 38% was cut using low-waste pattern design, up from 10% in 2023. Industry standard cutting waste is around 15%

We say low-waste, not zero-waste, because the waste is dramatically reduced and not eliminated. Individual pieces cut with genuine zero-waste patterns are named as such on their own product page.

Our circular programme: how it works

• Take-back — send any Infantium Victoria garment back to our Hannover atelier and we issue a 20% voucher for your next order. Single use, no expiry. Returned pieces are given a second life.
• Pre-loved resale — active on the Brandback platform, currently serving Germany and continental EU.
• Repair — write to us and we will send our repairs booklet or help you find a local repair partner.
• Deadstock — selected lines are cut from existing cloth rather than newly ordered cloth. Named per line, where true.

Packaging and delivery

Packaging is plastic-free FSC-certified recyclable cardboard. Biodegradable corn polybags are used only on the India-to-EU shipping leg; there are no polybags within Europe.

Parcels ship with DHL's GoGreen Plus programme, which replaces fossil fuels with renewable alternatives — HVO from biological waste, bio-CNG and electric fleets — inside DHL's own network, with the reduction credited to our shipments. This is a reduction within the transport chain. It is not an offset, and we do not describe our shipping as carbon neutral.

What we stopped saying

In 2026 we audited every consumer-facing claim on this site against the EU Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive (2024/825) and removed the language we could not substantiate — including the word "sustainable" as a self-description, and several certification logos whose licence terms do not permit EU display. The facts stayed. The adjectives went.

Frequently asked

Is every Infantium Victoria piece organic?

No, and we would rather say so. Organic cotton lines are GOTS-certified and marked as such on their product pages. Other pieces use conventional cotton, hemp, linen or Weganool and are described that way. Every piece is vegan and plant-based; not every piece is certified organic.

How do I check whether a specific piece is certified?

Open its product page. Pieces covered by a valid Transaction Certificate state "GOTS-certified organic cotton" and cite the licence. If a product page doesn't say it, the piece isn't covered — the absence is deliberate, not an oversight.

Is it safe for a baby with eczema or sensitive skin?

Our fabrics are plant-based, dyed without AZO dyes or chemical finishes, and our hardware is nickel-free. Baby styles are cut with flat seams and press-studs so nothing rubs. We are a clothing maker, not a medical authority — if your child has a diagnosed skin condition, check with your paediatrician or dermatologist first.

Why is it expensive?

Small batches, European and certified ateliers, living-wage production and certified materials cost more per piece than volume manufacturing. Most styles are made in runs of fewer than 200. We would rather show you the cost drivers than hide them behind a discount.

Are you a B Corp?

Our application is in evaluation. It has not been awarded, and we will not use the mark until it is.
