Black baby onesies, plain to dramatic
A black onesie is the most useful thing in a baby's drawer: it goes under a pinafore, over tights, with a skirt or on its own, and it never looks like pyjamas. Start with the plain one, the Black Baby Onesie: soft cotton jersey, press-studs at the crotch, no print and no slogan, in every size from 68 to 92. The Baby Onesie in Black is the other everyday choice in the same five sizes.
Black onesies with a detail
When you want a little more: The Flounce Onesie has a circular flounce, The Plastron Bodysuit a shirt-front bib, The Bow-Tie Onesie a bow-tie ribbon and the Black Tuxedo Onesie a pleated tux bib, a good choice for weddings and the holidays. The Black Baby Onesie with Velvet Detail adds cotton velvet for winter, and the Black Onesie with Floral Embroidery matches our little black dress and bomber jacket.
Lace, ruffles and gothic black
For the darker end, the Baby Girl Onesie with Spiderweb Lace, the Baby Girl Onesie with Lace Trim, the ruffled Princess Onesie and the Gothic Black Onesie with its ribbon. More pieces in the same spirit are in our goth baby clothes.
Organic black onesies
Three of these are GOTS-certified organic cotton, and it says so on their product pages: the Black Baby Knitted Onesie, the Baby Black Romper and the Floral Black Baby Onesie. The others are cotton jersey or cotton blends and are described that way. Every piece is vegan.
Sizes
All the onesies on this page run from size 68 (about 6 months) to 92 (about 2 years); some also come in 74 and 86. Our sizes are heights in centimetres, and the size and hand-me-down guide shows which size fits at which age. For one-piece outfits with legs, see our baby rompers.
Frequently asked
Is black safe for a baby's skin?
The colour itself is not the issue; what matters is the fabric and how it is finished. The fabric of every onesie is listed on its product page, and, as with any baby clothing, wash a new onesie once before the first wear.
Will a black onesie fade?
Black fades from hot washes and sun more than from time. Wash cool, inside out, without bleach, and dry it flat out of direct sun, and it stays black for the next baby too.
What is the difference between a onesie and a romper?
A onesie, or bodysuit, ends at the hips and closes with press-studs between the legs, so it can go under trousers, skirts and dresses. A romper is a one-piece outfit with legs that is worn on its own. This page is mostly onesies; our rompers have their own page.
What sizes do your black baby onesies come in?
From 68 (about 6 months) to 92 (about 2 years). The plain Black Baby Onesie, the Flounce Onesie and the Plastron Bodysuit also come in 74 and 86. The sizes in stock are shown on each product page.
Are your black baby onesies organic?
Three are: the Black Baby Knitted Onesie, the Baby Black Romper and the Floral Black Baby Onesie are GOTS-certified organic cotton, marked on their product pages. The rest are cotton jersey or cotton blends, described as such. All are vegan.
